"UNLOCK YOUR POTENTIAL"
ABOUT THE COACHES
As an athlete I came to triathlon through a cricket background and immediately fell in love with the sport & it's hard work equals results ethic. For the past 7 years it has been my passion striving for success & improvement. A two time 70.3 Overall Winner, & currently with 8 Ironman finishes under the belt with many more 70.3 & short course races including being a 2 time Kona finisher.
Having been self-coached for the past three seasons the methods I use are tried & tested as well as continually tinkered for optimum output. Along with completing coaching accreditation courses & learning more from sports coaches within different sports. Through the usage of Training Peaks software I'm able to plan, analyse & prepare athletes to get the most out of them despite many having busy lifestyles.
Hurt Locker Tri is not about the coach & all about getting the athletes to reach their goals, whether that is finishing their first triathlon or to qualify for World Championships.
I was introduced into the world of triathlon coming off the back of 15 years as a distance runner. I am a 5 times Ironman finisher, Kona qualifier, NSW Long Course (70.3) Champion and multiple 70.3 World Champs qualifier. I am fortunate to have been coached and mentored by some of the best coaches in Australia and bring this knowledge into coaching with Hurt Locker Tri.
Specialising in the Ironman and 70.3 distance for the past 6 years I have developed a deep understanding of how to balance training around everything that comes with being a female endurance athlete. I understand the importance of having a trusting and open Coach-Athlete relationship which allows for continual adaptation of load and intensity in training.
As an accredited Triathlon Australia coach I am passionate about getting athletes of all abilities to the start line of every race they do knowing they have done everything possible to execute a race they are proud of.
"I came to Charlie as a very novice triathlete having recently signed up for my first Ironman triathlon. Charlie and his plan far over-exceeded the mark and delivered quick and noticeable results. Charlie's commitment and invested interest in my performance was remarkable. He was always on hand to answer my questions, adapt my plan for injury and even there at the finish line in New Zealand - what a legend. If you're on the fence, get into the Hurt Locker and find out for yourself!"
"Charlie was an invaluable resource in the preparation for my first full Ironman triathlon. His training plan, which he adjusted to cater for an existing injury and my work schedule, got me to the starting line fitter than I have ever been. While his experience and willingness to answer my unending list of questions made sure I was mentally prepared for what to expect on the day. I would highly recommend Charlie to anyone who is looking to increase their performance to the next level!"
"I set my goal of breaking the 60 minute benchmark in the City2Surf having been unsussessful for the previous 4 years. Charlie gave me a clear, achievable and (at times) enjoyable 8 week program - I came home in 59.02 & was absolutely buzzing. Thanks Chucky"
"Charles started coaching me for triathlons in 2018. At the time I had been running for many years, but my longest swim prior to 2018 was 200m and I hadn’t cycled for well over 10 years. Within a matter of months he helped me achieve the impossible of a 5:30hr for my first half ironman in the IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong. Having had many wonderful coaches over the years, Charles had a high benchmark to match. Charles’ experience as an elite ironman, coupled with his thorough understanding of coaching techniques, excellent communications skills and flexible/ innovative approach gives his athletes the very best chance to achieve their potential. His contagious enthusiasm, dedication to his athletes and being an all-round top-bloke have made it a wonderful experience to be coached by Charles."
"Before I came to HLT my cycling was all about survival each race - definitely my weakness, & I didn't enjoy it. Since working with Charlie & his squad he has got me relishing the bike sessions & turned the bike leg into a weapon on race day! All whilst still improving my swim, run & introducing a better body maintenance routine into my plan. This was the driving force behind knocking 45mins off my 70.3 PB at Western Sydney & going sub 4h30"
